Transcription for Video: 5 Quick Small Business SEO Tips

Welcome to Another Apex Minute. I’m your host Trena Stubbs and today I’m going to share with you 5 Quick Small Business SEO Tips.

In this video, I’ll be covering:

  1. Developing a keyword strategy
  2. Improving your website content
  3. Blogging
  4. Optimizing your images
  5. Create a sitemap

So our first tip is developing a keyword strategy

Google and Bing are very sophisticated systems and building a comprehensive SEO strategy can be both overwhelming and difficult for small business owners. There are so many businesses online that companies with a small budget might think it’s an impossible task to get good ranking.

A great tip for getting started is making good use of the Bing and Google Keyword tools. These tools can be used to help you find keywords that are relevant to the service or product you’re offering as well as seeing how stiff the competition is for each of those keywords. I’ll be doing a video later in the month showing you how to effectively use the Google and Bing keyword tools.

Another place to look is with your online competitors. A great way to get an idea of the keywords you should use is by taking a peak over at the websites of your competitors.

Tip # 2 is to improve your website content

Once you’ve developed a keyword strategy, you want to make sure that the content on your website is relevant to the keywords you’ve chosen. There’s a myth that to get good ranking you just need a lot of pages. Well having tons of pages by itself isn’t going to cut the mustard. As systems like Bing and Google get more sophisticated, quality heavily reigns over quantity. Low quality content will only pull you down so it’s best to remove it or re-write it.

Tips #3 is blogging

Blogging is a great way to increase your website ranking because you’re killing two birds with one stone. You’re keeping your website updated with new and relevant content which is great for your organic or free ranking and you’re showcasing your expertise to your readers. No matter what you add to your website, you want to always keep your target audience first and your Google or Bing ranking second.

To further plead my case that you should be blogging, here are some stats:

  • 50% of internet users read blogs at least once a month
  • Companies that blog get 55% more visitors

Tip #4 is optimizing your images

Optimizing your images will help your ranking because search engines can only read text so if you don’t add any to your images, there’s no way for them to know that it’s there. This also helps your website pages load quicker. Be on the lookout for a video within the next couple of weeks on how to optimize your images.

My final tip is to create a sitemap for your website

Creating a sitemap or list of all of the urls on your website is a great way to ensure that search engines don’t overlook any of your pages. This is a roadmap to your website that helps in getting your content discovered and indexed.

Thank you guys for tuning in and as always your support in greatly appreciated so I hope this information has been useful in helping you build a better business.

Wishing you all the best and nothing less! Until next time.
