Why-is-your-website-failingAre you getting the amount of views you feel you deserve on your website? Are people signing up for your free offer or newsletter? Are you attracting legitimate leads (people actually interested in doing business with you)? If the answer to any of these questions is no, it may be time for you to start doing some hard core troubleshooting. One of the first things on the list should be your website. Now I know you love the way your website looks or that you’ve invested tons of time and money in it, but if it’s not doing it’s job, it may be time to make some tough decisions.

Growing up I always heard that men come a dime a dozen and I’d like to use that same analogy for business websites. That saying simply means that there are a lot of men in the world and guess what? There are a lot of websites in the world! Your website can easily be overlooked with so much online chaos. Here is a checklist that will help you determine if your website is one of the reasons you’re not getting the online leads you deserve.

Website Shady Pants

Does your website look trustworthy? One of the biggest reasons your website could be failing you is that it doesn’t look legitimate. People connect online with companies they trust. Here are some items that would make a website look less than up-standing.

  • Do you have ads floating all over the place? If this is the case, you need to remove them or at least create some type of structure. There’s nothing worse than a website that has so many advertisements from other companies that you forget why you clicked on their link in the first place. Small business websites with tons of ads give off the impression that the business may not be doing so well and they’re using the ads for supplemental income.
  • Do you have testimonials visible? Let your visitors see the people or companies that you’ve worked with in the past.
  • Make sure that your professionally designed logo is prominently positioned on your website.
  • Can people call you? If you only have a contact form and no phone number or address, you may be sending off the shady pants vibe. Legitimate businesses have phone numbers at the least on their website.

People Get Lost

Your website navigation needs to be easy to navigate. Resist making things overly complicated, people should be able to quickly find what they’re looking for on your website.

Your Website is Not Responsive

Mobile devices and tablets rule the world. Not everyone will use a computer to view your website so make sure that your website looks appealing no matter what device is being used to view it.

Funky Font Yo!

Just  because you love being different and bold doesn’t mean that you should extend this onto the font of your website. If people can’t read the content on your website, they are not going to stay on it very long.

Design without Marketing

A design without marketing is a complete waste of effort and virtual space. Do you have any idea how many websites are online? A whole bunch! Is your designer in a position to give you direction when it comes to the copy (words) that will be placed on your website? A good website designer can build a pretty picture. A great website designer understands conversion and knows how to build a pretty picture that attracts leads for your business.

Poor Content

Even with a pretty design, your website can be unattractive to your visitors if your content falls short. You want to fill your website with content that grabs the attention of your target audience. Content that is both prospect and search engine friendly. It’s important to not just add word fillers just to complete a page. Each sentence needs to have a purpose. Each sentence needs to be something that highly resonates with your ideal customer.

If you can check off everything on this checklist and you still can’t seem to get the results you need, it may be time for you to get a professional website analysis. Do you have a question?
